Nice article and very insightful. I know many players who have overestimated the killing potential of artillery. Then again, I have killed an entire grenadier platoon (5/7 stands) with a single 4-tube mortar barrage :)

If you play US Rifles, you can attach 1 Zook from HQ, 2 Zooks from a full MG Platoon. This gives you a Rifle Platoon with 4 Zooks 4 HMGs and 10 infantry stands for a 18 stand strong platoon. Great for defensive lists.

I really appreciate how the support weapon teams have been improved in version 3. Medium mortars actually now being able to equal the light mortars in firepower when firing direct fire and the ability to move and still use the HMG teams (in V.2 it was a nightmare to move them around as it rendered them useless).

I believe that some of the AT gun carriages were also artillery carriages and had the mounting points for the poles. One would think that the poles would be long gone if not needed, though.

For example, the 17 pdr for the Brits was mounted on a 25pdr carriage for a bit.

Thats just it.. BF isn't the most historical of all time, look at every M18 in their studio army, all have red n white poles... also, as a 21 Panzer player.. when that guy from BattleFront painted 12k points of 21 panzer and based the paintjob off one vehicle in a museum that had been repainted incorrectly.. I ended up repainting my whole force to be accurate because I followed their paint job without checking!

After this article, I see so many models, even a 1/6th scale pak40 pre painted.. had the red and white poles!! so BF isnt the only one getting it wrong I guess!

I love the PSC models and I have more money than time. I found I can put them together almost as fast, can convert them easier and they paint up far nicer. I do not use thick paint and so the plastic tends to allow things like filters and washes work far more effectively.

As for crew, I find that I am always buying Command Decision crew since a half-track should have more than two lonely guys sitting in it.

I have to say though I am a little shocked by your crew comments as well. The PSC crew and infantry in general have far more detail than any Battlefront infantry model I have ever seen. Not to mention things are proportional for the PSC models whereas the BF models tend to have massive hands and heads. They look like every single one of the BF infantry models is a cousin of the Rock with alien hands!

All in all I love them. Which in some ways saddens me because BF is such a fantastic company in every other regard that I would rather support them. This brings me to a dilemma since they do not have the cheapest product, nor the best once the PSC models started coming out. I still support BF in every way I can but PSC has made that slightly harder.

Bugger, I may have to paint over mine... there again, since they have been sculpted on by the sculptor perhaps they need a lesson in history too! Especially for deployed gun poses.
Perhaps I can get round it by saying, they are spares - bumpy roads and all that ;-)
